What comes to mind when you think of the outback? Extensive cattle stations. Horses, cattle and working dogs. Red dirt and dust. Men and woman in wide brimmed hats.
When you visit the Northern Territory, you’re visiting Australia’s true outback – and you can’t leave without experiencing the heart and soul of this Country. Katherine Outback Experience allows its guests to do just that, to live and breathe the romance of the Australian bush. The wild and untamed beauty of the land, the rugged terrain, the dramatic weather and the resounding isolation have moulded a group of people with immense heart, strength and resilience who live and work in the hands of mother nature.
Katherine Outback Experience offers guests a unique window into the inner workings of Australian cattle stations. Owned and operated by Tom and Annabel Curtain, Katherine Outback Experience presents a show that celebrates life on the land through real horse-starting and working dogs demonstrations coupled with humorous bush stories and live music. The show is raw and real; there is dust and chaos and things that don’t always go to plan – but that’s part of the honest-to-goodness outback locals know.
At Katherine Outback Experience, every show is different, but each provides a real insight into the way horses and dogs are trained for working life on cattle stations. This is an engaging, entertaining and educational show for all ages, with plenty of hands-on experience with the station animals.
An award-winning ‘horseman extraordinaire’, Tom Curtain is also an award-winning accomplished musician. He won two prestigious Golden Guitars at the 2018 Tamworth Country Music Awards (Australia’s highest country music accolade) and, with many chart-topping hits to his name, he’s happy to share his music with his guests.
Guests are treated to true country hospitality with this experience, which won the 2017 Tourism NT Business Growth Brolga Award and is highly ranked on TripAdvisor’s NT lists.
Katherine Outback Experience can cater for private group bookings, business events, is China Ready and Accredited and offers online bookings. It’s open April to close of October.
