MotorSports NT proudly represents some 10,500 licensed competitors, pit crews, officials and volunteers over 18 affiliated clubs across the Northern Territory. More than 185,000 spectators attend over 275 motorsport events held on an annual basis in the Territory!
Territorians love their motorsport and its popularity contributes to driving the sports-led tourism market into the NT. There is another great year of motorsport ahead with major events including the Sprint Car Trail “Chariots of Thunder” – that starts in Darwin and finishes in Alice Springs, the Australian Superbikes, and Nitro Up North with 6 Top Fuellers, Top Alcohol, Door Slammers and Top Bikes scheduled. Late July brings many of the interstate and local drag cars to Alice Springs for the Central Australian Drag Racing Desert Nationals.
The Darwin Motorcycle Club’s Kamfari race will see riders tear up the mud in its famous four-hour race for bikes and quads, while the Top End Road Association will host the TERRA Territory Challenge with local and international Superbike riders competing for the first place honour. In June, Alice Springs will play host to the Finke Desert Race, an off-road multi-terrain, two-day race for bikes, cars, buggies and quads. Finke is one of the biggest annual sporting events in the Northern Territory and has a reputation of being one of the most difficult off-road courses in one of the most remote places in the world.
MotorSports NT has recently celebrated its 10-year anniversary as the peak body for motorsport in the Northern Territory and it shows no signs of slowing down. This year is set to be huge, so motor sport enthusiasts are encouraged not to miss out!
