For that once in a lifetime experience, every time, Nautilus Aviation offers one of the best ways to see the world’s wonders just outside your doorstep! Its flights depart daily, so jump on board one of the scenic flights, design a custom tour of your own or, if you’re more adventurous, take the controls and fly yourself! The sky is no longer your limit; it’s your playground!
Nautilus Aviation began with a single Cessna 208 floatplane in 1993, operating from a historical World War II hangar at Townsville Airport. Its purpose was to transfer guests above the pristine waters of the Great Barrier Reef to beautiful coastal destinations, including the secluded hideaway of Orpheus Island.
In 2012 the floatplane was replaced by the company’s first helicopter, signalling the start of one of the largest and most versatile fleets in the northern regions of Australia. Today, after 24 years in the helicopter industry, Nautilus Aviation has 61 staff and 25 state-of-the-art piston- and turbine-powered helicopters across its bases in the Northern Territory and Queensland.
To many locals, Nautilus Aviation is known as the company with the ‘red helicopters’. Nautilus Aviation houses a fleet of luxurious red Airbus helicopters – seating up to six/seven passengers in a single aircraft, which is fitted with leather seats, air-conditioning and state-of-the-art safety systems. A standout feature of the H120 and H130 is the Fenestron tail rotor – an enclosed tail rotor – making them the quietest helicopters on the market, perfect for younger and more sensitive ears.
The company’s impressive fleet of 25 diverse helicopters enables Nautilus Aviation to provide a premium service across all areas of operation – tourism, VIP transfers, aerial, commercial and industry work. The newest addition in particular, the B412EP, enables the company to provide greater support disaster management agencies in the event of search and rescue operations, cyclones, floods and fire-fighting.
In the Northern Territory, tourism experiences include scenic flights over the city itself and further afield to iconic Top End sights such as the World Heritage-listed Kakadu National Park, VIP luxury transfers to local events including (and not limited to) the Carlton Mid Darwin Cup Carnival and the Noonamah Tavern Rodeo. There is also a selection of exciting packages to explore the territory’s stunningly vast backyard! Secluded day trips, complete with gourmet picnics to spoil loved ones, are also available.
A new package for 2017 combines a spectacular helicopter flight over Top End floodplains with an exhilarating, sensory filled airboat and cruise boat tour along the majestic Mary River Wetlands! From above and below, passengers have up close views of crocodiles, colourful flora and myriad native wildlife, including wallabies, jabirus, sea eagles, kites, kingfishers, brolgas, buffalos and jacanas. The package includes lunch and optional demonstrations from Pudakul Aboriginal Cultural Tours.
A variety of aircraft, an impeccable safety record and partnerships with a number of the region’s top tourism operators all make it possible for Nautilus Aviation to deliver unrivalled experiences for local families and visitors for any occasion and group size.
Whether you’re looking for family fun, a romantic escape or a way to impress, Nautilus Aviation has many touring options. Your memorable journey can even be personalised with stopovers and destinations of your choice.
This year, tick a helicopter adventure off your bucket list and experience the difference with Nautilus Aviation.
