Asian foods are as much a part of Darwin cuisine as barramundi these days and Vietnamese is always a popular option with locals. Ruby Darwin has become a definite favourite for its great central location in the mall and delicious authentic flavours.
A family-owned business, Ruby has been around for a few years now and is the go-to for many locals, due to its interesting menu and friendly service. Offering all the classics with a few fusion surprises and a street food vibe to the menu, Ruby has a little something for everyone. Choose from the usual starters of spring rolls and rice paper rolls, or try a tasting platter to share. Most of the entrées are finger food and come with all the right dipping sauces. They’ll keep you going while you wait for the main course.
The main courses include plenty of options, from vegetarian to pork, tofu to beef. The coconut chicken is also a hot tip, with many considering Ruby’s version to be Darwin’s best. There’s also the classic Vietnamese comfort food, phó. A crowd favourite, this fragrant dish of steaming broth, noodles, vegetables and herbs comes with just enough of everything to feed your belly and soul, plus there’s extra chilli if you like it spicy.
Ruby Darwin is committed to an authentic home-style menu, avoiding some of the more clichéd western items that so many Australian/Asian restaurants include. The focus is on fresh, tasty food full of classic Vietnamese flavours.
Ruby is open from every day from 10.30am to 10pm. Reservations are welcome and takeaway is available. There is air-conditioned indoor seating or outdoor seating where you can enjoy the ambience of Darwin city in the evening and a cool breeze if you time it right.
